Rexalee Ireland Obituary

Rexalee Kaye Ireland passed away on her own terms, peacefully at home on March 4, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on October 25, 1943, to Marion (Lockman) and Arnold Shafer in Oronoko Township, MI.

From the beginning, she carried the strength, independence and determination that would define the way she lived her life. A woman known for her love that made everyone feel like family. She was known for her unforgettable personality. She was born a redhead, and she defined it- speaking her mind without hesitation and making strangers feel like old friends within minutes. She was the kind of woman who believed in loving big, forgiving quickly, and facing life head on.

She found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. Rexalee loved spending time at her cabin with friends and family. She looked forward to attending the senior citizens’ lunches, where conversation and community was always part of the day.
Rexalee lived with a big heart, plenty of smiles, and a fierce love for her family. Her greatest pride in life was the family she created. She was a devoted mom, grandma, and great grandma whose love will continue to shape generations.

Though her passing leaves an immeasurable hold in the hearts of those who loved her, Rexalee’s strength, zest for life, and life will continue to live on through the family she cherished so deeply.
Rexalee was welcomed home by loved ones who went before her. Her husband of 48 years, David John Ireland, her son Arnie and grandson Alex, who were surely among the first to greet her along with her sweet Brownie.

She leaves behind the family she cherished; her children: James (Robin) Ireland and Tina (Jason) DelBosque. Her grandchildren: Amy (Daniel) Buckhannon, Amanda (Duane) Below, Steven (Kylie) Ireland, Andrew (Amy) Cox, Austin (Autumn) Cox and Jake Cox. Her great grandchildren: Audrey, Gavin, Scarlett, Olivia, Carter and Axel. She also leaves behind her loving sisters: Vicki (late James Hauch) and Laura (Elmer) Copeland, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews who all held a special place in her heart. She also leaves behind extended family and many friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
Those who knew Rexalee know she would not want tears for long- only that we remember to love big, speak our minds, and keep living life boldly, just as she always did.

In keeping with Rexalee’s wishes, cremation is taking place. A celebration of life will be held by the family on March 28, 2026, with a visitation from 1-2 pm and services starting at 2 pm, with a dinner following at New Troy American Legion, 4789 Weechik Rd, New Troy, MI 49119.
