Richard L. Mead

Richard L. Mead, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023, in South Bend, IN. Born on February 6, 1929, in Bertrand, MI, Richard was a dedicated family man and a hardworking individual who left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Richard was the son of the late Arthur and Nettie (Ortman) Mead. He grew up in a large, close-knit family with his sisters Darleen (Anthony) Mohasic and the late Marilyn Gardner, and his brothers John (Janet) Mead, Donald Mead, Denny Mead, and the late Harold Mead. Richard's strong family values and work ethic were evident throughout his life.

In 1957, Richard married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Kintz who preceded him in death in 2014. Together, they raised six children: Tammy (Jay) Reinsel, Roxanne Morrow, Richard L. Mead II, the late Susan Spann, Ricky Mead and Lani Jo Radcliff. Their family expanded then with 10 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Richard was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first.

Richard's professional life was marked by dedication and commitment. Richard was a stockman at I&M Electric, where he worked for 42 years before retiring in 1992. His colleagues remember him as a reliable and hardworking individual who was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Outside of work, Richard was an avid amateur radio operator. He enjoyed connecting with people from all over the world and sharing his passion for radio communication. This hobby allowed him to make many lifelong friendships and create lasting memories. Richard was also a Veteran of the US Army.

Funeral Services for Richard will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, June 9, 2023 at Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel 17033 Cleveland Rd South Bend, IN 46637, with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
