Richard “Dick” Wise Sr, 98, a lifelong resident of South Bend passed away on Saturday May 23, 2026, at Wellbrooke in South Bend.
Dick was born on June 3, 1927, in South Bend to the late Glenn and Mable (Taylor) Wise.
Dick attended Central High School before entering the United States Army and serving in Korea. He came home and was hired by the United States Postal Service, serving as a mail carrier for 30 years before his retirement in 1985.
Dick met the love of his life, Harriet Kozuch while roller skating and the two were married on September 11, 1948, in South Bend, sharing 77 years united as one.
Dick loved to golf and was a founding member of the South Bend Men’s Bowling Hall of Fame, later named St. Joe USBC. He was inducted into the National Bowling Hall of Fame in St. Louis, MO.
Dick is survived by his wife, Harriet, his daughter, Nancy Grembowicz and his son, Richard “Rick” Wise Jr. (Dyann) as well and his grandchildren; Lindzy Wise and Travis Wise, and his great-grandchildren; Elena, Sophia, Cattleya, Jessie, Brady, Breiyah.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Orville Wise, and Ernest Wise and his son in law John Grembowicz.
Dick will be laid to rest at a later date at St. Joseph Polish Catholic Cemetery, South Bend.
