Richard “Dick” I. Engle Sr, 84, passed away in his home with family by his side on May 10, 2022. Richard was born July 15, 1937, to the late Verlin Veron Engle and Edna Mae (Olmstead) Engle.
Richard is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn (Reed) Engle, his daughters; Rakea (Shawn) Sanders, Terri Engle and Kelly (Fred) Owens, all of South Bend. His sons; Richard (Ann) Engle Jr of South Bend, Douglas (Robyn) Engle of South Bend, David Engle (Marietta) of South Bend and Dean Engle (Whitney) of Niles, MI; brother-in-laws, Gordan (Sandy) Bethel and Shawn Spriggs (Tina) both of South Bend and sister-in-law, Michelle Ballard of Sacramento, CA. Richard is also survived by 14 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.
Richard was a great carpenter by trade. He worked construction, Managed the maintenance department for Goodwill Industries, worked for the company his father started, VV Engle Construction and he was owner of G&R Salvage. Richard finally retired at the age of 79.
Richard was an active member of the community. He was Clay Township Trustee and during that time he created Clay Park. He was a volunteer fireman for Clay Fire Department, a member of the Clay Township Lions Club, a member and Past Master of Council Oak Lodge 742, F. & AM; a member of York Rite, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, a carpenter for Local #413, and an active member of First United Methodist Church of South Bend. He was also part owner of the Creative Musicians Club.
Richard was very humorous and always a very happy person to be around. He loved playing cards and trips to Vegas. Richard was a Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 18th, 2022, at 12:00pm at First United Methodist Church 333 N. Main St. South Bend, IN 46601. You may visit with family from 11:00am until the time of service.
