Richard “Dick” L. Sittig, age 94, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026. He was born in Buchanan, MI, to the late Leon and Blanche (Loop) Sittig on March 27, 1931 and remained a lifelong resident of the area.
Dick graduated from Buchanan High School in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Army two years later. He served with remarkable bravery, earning two Purple Hearts, though he rarely spoke of his accomplishments. Dick carried his service with the same quiet humility that defined his life. After returning home, he spent many dedicated years working at Electro‑Voice, retiring in 1993.
But the true center of Dick’s life was Jenny, whom he united in marriage on December 21, 1984. From the moment they came together, she became his whole world. He dedicated his life to her—through every season, every challenge, every joy. Their love was not loud or showy; it was steady, enduring, and deeply felt. They were partners in every sense, sharing nearly forty years of companionship, laughter, and simple adventures. Whether they were exploring new restaurants, taking drives through the region, or jotting down notes about their favorite meals, they did it side by side. Life was sweeter because they lived it together.
Dick is survived by his sons, Michael (Patricia) Sittig and James Sittig; his grandchildren, Dustin, Sarah, and Anthony; and his great-grandchildren, Lukas, Annalise, Leighla, and Saige. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Jenny and his sister, Shirley Williams.
Dick had a soft spot for animals, especially his cats, who were never far from his side. He found peace in birdwatching, taking comfort in the quiet moments of nature. He was also a familiar face at the Buchanan American Legion Post #51 and the Moose Lodge, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships built over the years.
Funeral services for Dick will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Palmer Funeral Home – Hoven Chapel, 414 E. Front St., Buchanan, MI. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan.
