Robert Dorsch Obituary

Robert E. Dorsch Sr. of South Bend, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023 at the age of 91. He was born June 30, 1931 to Frankie and Ethel (Horvath) Dorsch and was a life long resident of the area.

He served in the U.S. Marines Corp form 1950-1953 stateside during the Korean War. Mr. Dorsch was a retired registered professional engineer P.E., retiring in 1991 after 31 years at Uniroyal in Mishawaka and Parrish Machine Co. in 1998. He worked as a free lance engineering consultant. He also worked as a reporter for Uniroyal paper for 8 years. He held degrees in mathematics and mechanical engineering and a candidate for an advanced degree in engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

He was a registered professional in the State of Indiana and a past member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. The Indiana Society of P.E.’s and the St. Joseph Valley chapter where he held mechanical design patents in the U.S. and 17 foreign countries. He is also a biographer in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the Midwest in 1982 and 1983. He was a member for 68 years at the Cathedral of St. James of South Bend. He sang in the choir and was chapter member and usher.

He was a “soft touch” to help anyone especially his children and grandchildren. On July 2, 1955 he married Joann Rawles of South Bend. She survives with their two daughters; Candis McCarthy of Goshen, Julie (Ken) Selby of Granger and their son; Robert Jr. (Wendy) Dorsch of Mishawaka. Along with their 6 grandchildren; Jennifer McCarthy, Stephanie Selby, Evan Selby, Coral Dorsch, Corporal Cade Dorsch and two great grandchildren; Nicholas and Carson McCarthy. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson; Thomas McCarthy and sisters; Betty Lord and Deanna Brunson.
 

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Cathedral of St. James of South Bend, 117 North Lafayette Boulevard, South Bend IN. Friends may visit with the family one hour before services at the church. Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
