Robert Marshall Fessenden, age 88, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at
4:15 p.m. at Holy Cross Village in Notre Dame, Indiana.
Robert was born on June 11, 1937, in Northampton, Massachusetts, to Richard William
Fessenden and Bertha (Polley) Fessenden. He spent his later years residing in Notre
Dame, Indiana, near his brother’s family. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Louise
Fessenden. Also surviving are his niece, Carol Fessenden, his nephew, Robert
Fessenden and extended family members who cherished him. He was preceded in
death by his brother, Richard Warren Fessenden.
Robert found great joy in observing wildlife, especially birds, and traveling to pursue his
passion for bird watching. He also had fond memories of summers on Cape Cod. He
appreciated nature’s beauty and the calm it brought to his life.
Burial will take place in Amherst, Massachusetts at a later date. No services are
planned at this time.
Robert will be remembered for his gentle presence, intellectual curiosity, and love of the
natural world.
