Robert A. Gary Sr.

Robert A. Gary Sr., 63, of South Bend, passed away at 4:13am on Thursday April 2, 2026, in his home.

Born on September 2, 1962, in South Bend, Robert was the son of the late Otis (Brenda) Gary and Elizabeth (Emmit) Johnson. He spent his life rooted in the community he loved.

Robert was a proud graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1980. He also honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Robert enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including fishing and cooking, and cherished time spent with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose presence brought warmth and strength to those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carmen (Taylor) Gary; his daughters, Kiara Gary and Lataja  Gary; and his sons, Robert Gary Jr., Javan Jones-Gary, and Robert Jamal Gary. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Robert is also survived by his sister, Connie (Amon) Jones, and his brother, Douglas (Gina) Gary.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. in Palmer Funeral Homes – West Chapel 2702 Lincolnway West South Bend, IN 46628. Military honors will be rendered in recognition of his service to our country.
