Robert E. Sauer

Robert Eugene Sauer, 92 years old, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Bob was born on July 24, 1934 in Madison Township, IN to the late Willard and Mabel (Smeltzer) Sauer.  He was number 9 of a total of 16 brothers and sisters.  On March 27, 1955 in Lakeville, Bob and the former Dorothy D. Dickson were united in marriage.  Dorothy preceded him in death on July 12, 2021 after 66 years of marriage. 

Bob is survived by his six children, Randy (Connie) Sauer of Lakeville, Danny (Cheri) Sauer of Lakeville, Jay (Justine) Sauer of Plymouth, Annette (Tom) Einspahr of Plymouth, Michael (Kelley) Sauer of South Bend, and David Sauer of Lakeville; 11 grandchildren, Melissa (Shawn) Wade, Jessica Sauer, Ashley (Aaron) Woodcox, Corey (Ashlee) Sauer, Nathan (Brittney Miller) Sauer, Cindel Sauer, Colten (Amanda) Sauer, Derrick DeWitt, Marissa (Michael) Friar, Arianna Peak, and Sade Williams; and 25 great grandchildren.  Bob is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Gaines of Lakeville and Jane Sauer of Texas, and his brother, Dale Sauer of Lakeville.  He was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Anthony Sauer.

Bob worked at Ave Maria Press, Notre Dame and also was a meat cutter at Annis Grocery.  A hard worker, he also was self-employed in farming.  Bob enjoyed playing sports and played softball until he was almost 60 years old.  He and Dorothy enjoyed summer-time days fishing.  In their senior years, they enjoyed traveling.  He truly marked one off of his bucket list going on the Alaskan Cruise. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Palmer Funeral Home, within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville.  Pastor Ed McCutchan will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at Bremen Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30th at the funeral home.  Friends may also visit with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
