Robert Shoemaker Obituary

Robert “Bob” Shoemaker, 81, of Niles, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Bob was born on July 2, 1944, in Mishawaka, to the late Robert E. Shoemaker and Sarah A. (Brown) Shoemaker. On August 10, 1963, in Niles, he was united in marriage to Fayonne “Faye” Potter, who survives. Together they shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and adventure.

Bob worked for approximately 30 years for the City of Niles as a meter reader, a role he truly enjoyed. He loved meeting people, talking with them, and building connections throughout the community. Bob never knew a stranger—he loved people, his friends and family meant the world to him.

Over the years, Bob and Faye enjoyed taking trips up north, camping, dancing, and listening to music. He especially cherished time spent with his family and grandchildren, taking them for walks and sharing his love of the outdoors. Bob also owned and operated his own business, Bob’s Saw Sharpening, where he took pride in his craftsmanship and service. One of Bob’s favorite places to be, his garage. He would open the big door outback with lawn chairs spread in the yard where friends, family, and customers of his chainsaw business would sit, visit and drink coffee.

Bob is survived by his children: Donna (Kevin) Stratton, Robert “Bobby” Shoemaker, and Olivia Hardisty. He was blessed with grandchildren Shay (Jeremia) Egbert, Erinn Shoemaker, Shena (Christopher) Fowler, Lyndsi, Kayli, and Emilee Stratton, along with 15 great‑grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind his sister, Joy (Tom) Dell of Niles. Bob was preceded in death by his siblings Nancy Wagoman, Pricilla Young, Rose Zehner, and Charles Shoemaker.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place, and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home – Hoven Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family by visiting www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
