Robert "Bob" Herbster Obituary

Robert L. Herbster, 92 years old, passed away at 5:02 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home in Warsaw surrounded by his family.  Mr. Herbster was born on August 7, 1928 in Lakeville to the late Jacob Arthur and Carrie Olive (McBride) Herbster.  On June 27, 1954, at Pine Creek Church of the Brethren in North Liberty, Robert “Bob” and Elsie Marie Rowe were united in marriage.  After 62 years of marriage, Elsie preceded her husband in death on September 5, 2016.  Bob and Elsie resided in Lakeville until moving to Warsaw in 1987.

Mr. Herbster is survived by his four children, Barbara (James) Blechl of Granger, Sue (Dan) Craig of Warsaw, Steve (Tammy) Herbster of Middlebury, and Greg (Kim) Herbster of Warsaw; nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren, David (Jenny) Blechl and their children, James and Ryan, Katie (Jeremy) Miller and their children, Elliott, Olivia, and Emmarie; Laura (Griffin) Borst and their son Luca, Anna Craig, Carrie (Bill) Clark and their children, William, Ella, and Mason, Stephanie (Eric) Stults and their children, Madeline, Luke, and Hallie Sue, Jessica (Nathan) Stemm and their children, Mia, Jack, Dallas, and Peter, Emily (Ross) Hougland and their children, Clayton, Crew, and Penelope Mae, and Adam (Briley) Herbster.  Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Weigand, Virginia Balsbaugh, and Zelma Baughman; and one brother, Glenn Herbster. 

 

Mr. Herbster was a graduate of Lakeville High School and proudly served his country with the United States Army.  He was Branch Manager at the former Central State Bank in Lakeville for many years during the era when a handshake was stronger than a formal contract.  He helped countless clients and friends with loans to better their families’ lives.  He was a longtime attendee of Grace Fellowship Church in Bremen.  

A celebration of Mr. Herbster’s life will be held at a future date to be announced as Covid-19 continues to slow.  Palmer Funeral Home in Lakeville is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Robert L. Herbster may be donated to Grace Fellowship Church, 535 S.
