Ronald "Ron" Mudwilder Obituary
Ronald “Ron” Mudwilder, 88, residing in South Bend, passed away at 6:37am Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in his home. He was born November 10, 1932 in Birmingham, AL to the late Edward Grant and Mary Catherine (Edelen) Mudwilder.
On April 11, 1953 in Birmingham, AL, Ron married the former Theresa Swift, who survives. They moved to the South Bend area in 1968 coming from California.
Ron served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1953 – 1955 before serving an additional 12 years in the Navy Reserves. He worked as an accountant at Associates for 25 years, First Source Bank for nine years, Basney Ford for four years and finally, on his own for five years before retiring in 1998. Ron was an active parishioner at St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend. He enjoyed watching Auburn football, reading, taking walks and playing golf.
In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, Ron is survived by one daughter, Kathy L. Mudwilder of Elkhart; and three sons, Greg E. (Trisha) Mudwilder of San Diego, CA, Ron (Linda) Mudwilder of Snoqualmie Pass, WA and Ken (Susan) Mudwilder of Williamsburg, VA; as well as 16 grandchildren, Jeremy, Brooke, Danyelle, Deanna, Julie, Malaura, Ryeder, James, Kaeyla, Gianna, Aaeyla, Brian, Michelle, Michael, Evan and Allan; and 11 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon Monday, January 11, 2021 in St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 Ironwood Road, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 – 4:00 pm Sunday, January 10, 2021 in the Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where a rosary will be recited at 2:00 pm. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to mass on Monday in the church.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ron may be donated to St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church or Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
