Rose Feil Obituary

Rose Ann Feil, 79, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2018, at IU Hospice House in Bloomington, Indiana surrounded by her family.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday May 25, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Father John Meany as celebrant.  Internment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend, Indiana.  Burial services will be private. Visitation will be held Friday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Bloomington, before the funeral mass.

Rose Ann was born on June 15, 1938, on a farm near Clutier, Iowa, the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Roubinek) Dvorak.  She received her early education in a rural school in Tama County, Iowa, and at the Immaculate Conception Academy in Dubuque, Iowa.  She held an R.N. degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque, Iowa, and a B.S. degree in Natural Sciences from Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, Iowa.  She served as a staff nurse with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Kansas City, Missouri, and as a faculty member of the Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas, where she was a Freshman Instructor and staff sponsor of the yearbook.

Rose Ann married Joseph Feil on August 26, 1967, and moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she raised two daughters, Ann & Janine.  For a number of years, Rose Ann was a stay-at-home Mom, active in supporting numerous school activities for her children, including working in the Learning Center, as a Lunch Room Mom, and as field trip chaperone at St. Benedict’s Elementary School.  She was also very active in supporting her church, including as a member of the Rosary Society and as vice president of the Ladies Society.

While in Chicago, Rose Ann eventually returned to nursing in the Skilled Nursing Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and to the classroom to complete a B.S. degree in Nursing from North Park University in Chicago.  She then worked at Bethany Methodist Hospital in Chicago, until her husband retired in 1991 and she relocated with him to South Bend, Indiana,

Rose Ann continued her nursing career in South Bend, working with hospice, and at St. Paul’s Retirement Community.  She officially retired from an active nursing career in 1999.   While in South Bend, Rose Ann continued to be an active volunteer for her church, and she had a very full retirement life.  She loved doing word searches, clipping articles for her scrap book, and watching sports events – with an enduring love for the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame football.    But most of all she loved music and the theatre and she loved watching her grandchildren grow up, especially going to the Chicago suburbs to see plays with her granddaughter and to hear her grandson play his cello.  In addition, when at home in South Bend, she would frequently attend live performances and music, taking organ classes at Shirk’s Piano and Organ in Mishawaka/South Bend.  She even purchased her own instrument so that she could practice at home.

When her health declined, Rose Ann relocated to Bloomington, Indiana to be closer to her daughter, Ann.  Rose Ann lived with Ann for six months, and then moved to Monroe Place Senior Living and then Gentry Park Senior Living until a brief illness brought her to IU Hospice house.  Rose Ann’s husband, Joseph Feil, predeceased her in 1994.  She is survived by her daughters, Ann and Janine Feil.  She is also survived by a brother, Wilfred (Evelyn) Dvorak, two sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Fearing) Dvorak and Kathleen (Feil) Manyek, two grandchildren, Charles and Rachel Jenkins, a niece, Alison Dvorak, a nephew, Peter (Kim) Manyek, and four great-nephews.  For guest book, and on-line condolences visit www.palmerfuneralhomes.com
