Rose-Marie Merz Obituary

Rose-Marie (Weibel) Merz passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, in South Bend, Indiana. Born March 10, 1938, in New York City, she lived a life defined by love of family, deep friendships, and service to others.

Rose-Marie was the daughter of the late Franz and Marie-Rose Weibel and sister to Marguerite Walker, as well as the late Barbara Dixon and Robert Weibel. After earning a degree in education, she began her career as a sixth-grade teacher before later finding success as a realtor, where her warmth and genuine care for people shone through.

She was a devoted mother to Katie (Barry) Cybulski, Jamie, Michael, and Kim (Bill) Bogold, and a cherished grandmother to Caitlyn, Brittany, Brianna, Maddy, Jacob, Tyler, Gracie, Chloe, and Logan and loving great-grandmother to Ander, Levi, and Denver. Rose-Marie was known for her kindness, adventurous spirit, and the joy she found in creating meaningful moments with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James (Jim). Rose-Marie’s warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.

A celebration of life visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, from 5-7p.m., at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615. Private burial will take place in Cape Cod, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rose-Marie’s honor may be given to the American Heart Association, 7612 W. County Line Rd., Grovertown, IN 46531.
