Rose M. Spalding, 100, of South Bend, IN passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 after 7:00 p.m. after being rushed to Memorial Hospital. She died at the hospital from a massive heart attack. She was born on January 25, 1920 in South Bend, IN to the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (Riale) Bonjorno. On June 19, 1948 in Mishawaka, IN, As Rose Marie Bonjorno, she married Lowell H. Spalding who preceded her in death on March 8, 2006.
Rose is survived by her daughters, Karen Mayer and Jan (Mike Hiatt) Spalding; five grandchildren. Randy, Joe and Lisa Mayer, Dawn Nork and Amber Koszyk ; seven great grandchildren, Jace, Taylor, Mason, Wes, Van, Alex and Rose. She was preceded in death by her son, Don Spalding on Oct. 10, 2019; seven brothers. Dominick, Phillip, Anthony, Peter, Joseph, Michael and Paul Bonjorno and one sister, Lucille “Toots” Gardini.
Rose retired from St. Joseph County Postage Assessor’s office. She was parishioner of St. Matthew’s Cathedral in South Bend. But most of all, she will be remembered for being the most loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the kindest, sweetest and caring mother one could ever ask for.
Due to the Coronavirus restrictions, private services will be held at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
