Rosemarie Norris passed away on her birthday, April 10, 2012, in California.  She passed in comfort surrounded by her family.  She had just turned 78.

Rosie, as she liked to be called, was born to Hungarian parents in South Bend, and was always very proud of her Hungarian heritage and encouraged her children to be the same.  She was a woman full of life and joy who always seemed to be in good spirits.  She had a bigger than life personality and truly lit up a room when she walked in.  She loved to dance.

When she was single, she worked at Bendix and, rare for a woman of her age and time, purchased a cottage in Sister Lakes, Michigan, that was enjoyed for over four decades by her family.

She married Jack Norris in 1960.  He passed away 3 years ago.

She was a faithful parishioner at Little Flower Catholic Church, and helped coordinate masses there.  She also volunteered to organize chili suppers for Swanson School to raise money, and became known as the "Chili Queen."  She also volunteered to organize class reunions for her beloved Washington High.

Three decades of kids remember Rosie as the crossing guard at Cleveland Road.  She truly cared for the kids she had in her guard, and would always greet them with a happy smile, some good cheer and maybe a joke or words of encouragement if needed.

Later she also worked at and owned, with her husband and son, Dudes 'n Darlins Western Wearhouse downtown.  She also worked for security at Notre Dame, which meant for several years, she worked three jobs simultaneously.

But most importantly, she was the greatest mom any kid could have.  She truly lived her life for her kids.  She taught through action and word the value of hard work, of not wasting money or resources and to always keep a positive and friendly attitude.  She never complained.  With her tremendous love and devotion, she gave her kids great confidence and taught them to always stand up for what is right.  Most of all, she gave them kindness.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.  She is survived by her three children...Connie Norris of South Bend, Dean (Bridget) Norris of Temecula, CA and Nikie (Bart) Hamilton of Torrance, CA. She also has 14 grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, Melissa, Stephanie, Taylor, Cassie, Emma, Max, Jack, Zoe, Dean, Barrett, Jake and Luke.
