Rosemary Taylor, a beloved mother, wife, daughter, grandmother and sister, passed away at 9:00pm on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka, IN. Born on September 14, 1929, in South Bend, Rosemary's life was a testament to the power of love and family.
The daughter of Ike and Stella (Torzewski) Kazmierzak, both of whom preceded her in death, Rosemary was a lifelong resident of South Bend. She grew up with her siblings, including her brother Robert Kazmierzak, who has since passed, and her sister Betty DeBruyne, who survives her. Rosemary graduated from South Bend Catholic High School.
On February 23, 1952, Rosemary married the love of her life, John Carl Taylor. Their union was blessed with 64 years of shared dreams and partnership until Carl's passing on October 15, 2016. Together, they raised a family that would be Rosemary's greatest pride: daughter, Karla (Mike) Cashen; son, Mark (Diana) Taylor; and their beloved grandchildren, Michael Cashen, Julianne Taylor, Katrina (Sam) Horlbeck Olsen, and Kesley (Jake) Burton. She also cherished her step-grandchildren: Elizabeth (Eric) Ward, and Jennifer (Jeff) Williams.
Rosemary enjoyed a career of working as an executive secretary for various organizations including Northern Indiana Health Systems, Indiana University South Bend and AM General, throughout the years.
Rosemary's zest for life was evident in her passions. She was a spirited participant in dance clubs with her husband. Their home was often filled with the laughter of friends and family at parties they hosted. She always looked forward being at the lake on Sundays with her family in the summer. Her competitive nature shone through in her love for games like bingo, euchre, and Skip-Bo, which she dearly enjoyed playing with her sister, Betty, and friends at Arborwood as well as Cedarhurst this last year. She had a friendly and spunky spirit, loving to spend time and have fun with friends.
Rosemary visited many interesting places including the rugged beauty of the Grand Canyon, the thrills of Las Vegas, the scenic landscapes of Gatlinburg, and cruising in Hawaii and Aruba. Going out to eat was always fun. Yet, no destination was more cherished than the company of her family, whether it was enjoying Karla and Mike's tacos at home or visiting Mark and Diana for lasagna. She also enjoyed cheering on Notre Dame’s football team.
Rosemary loved to read and inspired a love of reading in her children, taking them to the library weekly as they were growing up. Unfortunately, her vision deteriorated to the point she could not read books but skimmed the newspaper and still was able to play her beloved card games! Her presence was a gift to those who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt.
While there will be no services at this time, Rosemary's legacy will be honored as she will be inurned next to her beloved husband, John Carl Taylor, at Southlawn Cemetery at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
As we say goodbye, we celebrate the enduring impact of her love, laughter, and strength.
