Ruth Amussen, 89, resident of South Bend, IN, passed away on Thursday morning, July 18, 2019. She was born on September 6, 1929 in Hyrum, Utah, to Irvin and Fontella (Rose) Anhder, both of whom preceded her in death.
On September 12, 1951 in Logan, UT, Ruth married Francis S. Amussen, who preceded her in death on August 1, 2013. Ruth is survived by her daughters, Kirsten (Stephen Kramer) Amussen of South Bend, and Martha (Doug) Miller of Loveland, CO; son, Franz (Kay) Amussen of Salt Lake City, UT; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Rosy (Dan) Hare of Rochester, NY and her beloved cat, Buttons. In addition to her loving husband and her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Janel Curtis, and her brother, Lavar Anhder.
Ruth met the love of her life while registering for her first semester of college at Utah State University. She went on to earn her master’s degree in education from Indiana University. Her teaching career spanned over 40 years, beginning in Utah and retiring from the South Bend Community School Corporation. In retirement, she spent much of her time tending to her garden and becoming an accomplished stained glass crafter.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family.
