Ruth Ann (Vandewalker) Grzeszczyk

Ruth Ann Grzeszczyk, 89, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Viva Memory Care, South Bend, IN.

She was born on March 23, 1937, in LaPorte, Indiana, to Alvin Vandewalker and Geraldine (Porter) Vandewalker Hayne Kelley.

Ruth provided a safe, loving home environment and took great joy in her children. She held a strong sense of curiosity, a passion for knowledge, and believed in the importance and commitment of civic duty.

On June 8, 1957, she married Walter Grzeszczyk. Together they shared 68 years of love and family life.

Ruth is survived by her son Walter Grzeszczyk of Grass Valley, Oregon and her daughters, Dianne (Chris) Bali and Elizabeth Krager, both of South Bend, Indiana. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren and a great-grandmother to seven. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her brother, Leroy Vandewalker.

In accordance with Ruth’s wishes, there will be no service. She generously donated her body to science, reflecting her giving nature and opportunity for learning even in passing.

Ruth will be remembered for her devotion to family and friends, her quiet strength, and the kindness she showed to those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
