Ruth M. (Merwin) Moser

Ruth M. Moser, age 96, of Granger, Indiana, passed away on April 1, 2026, at StoryPoint Granger.

Born on October 11, 1929, in New York, New York, Ruth was the beloved daughter of William S. and Anna J. (Jaynes) Merwin. She grew up with a love for learning that would shape the course of her life and career.

On September 7, 1950, Ruth married the love of her life, Hugh J. Moser Sr., in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Together they built a life centered on family, education, and community.

Ruth devoted her professional life to education, serving as a teacher and professor. She taught at Parchment High School and later contributed to the academic community at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Her passion for teaching and dedication to her students left a lasting impact on many lives.

She is survived by her loving children: daughter Barbara Oldroyd of Gaithersburg, Maryland; son Hugh J. (Patricia Bottorff) Moser Jr. of South Bend, Indiana; and son David J. (Svetlana) Moser of Washington, D.C. Ruth was a proud grandmother to Rachel (Dom) Dainelli and Courtney Moser. Along with her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband and brother, W.S. Merwin.

Ruth will be remembered for her intelligence, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her family and her students. Her legacy of compassion and lifelong learning will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.

A private memorial service will be held by the family, followed by a reception at First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, on Saturday, May 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46614, is assisting the family with arrangements.
