Salahud-Din Shabazz Obituary

A Trailblazer. A Renegade. A Truth Seeker.

Salahud-Din Ibn Shabazz known to most as “Sal” departed this life early in the morning on April 7, 2021 protecting his home.

Salahud-Din was born January 28th, 1982 to the loving union of Muhammad Akbar Shabazz I and Martha Allen Shabazz. The youngest of their four children, Salahud-Din was named in honor of the most brave and decorated sultan of Egypt & Syria. After graduating from South Bend Clay High School in 2001 where he was a standout athlete excelling in football and track, Sal went on to play football at Grand Valley State University and then Minnesota State University where he again received honorable mentions. Not to be reduced to athletic abilities, as a teenager, Salahud-Din began expressing himself through poetry and eventually. alongside his brother, Muhammad Shabazz II wrote and produced an entire album vividly illustrating their childhood and romantic experiences, emphasizing the message of humbleness and humility. Sal’s accolades on the field, in the studio, and on the battlefield are minute considering his character and personality. He served in the US Army during 2008- 2012, completing one full tour in Afghanistan. Salahud-Din resided in Newport News after serving his America. Prior to his service, Salahud-Din’s various talents afforded him opportunities to grace the world with his gifts. A catalyst, Salahud-Din had a gift for enlightening debates on almost any topic. Salahud-Din’s mutable and curious nature took him all around the world making the friendships that he cherished seamless. Sal was most content with just being a family man whose mission was to lead by example. Salahud-Din wore many hats, but his most cherished role was being a father to his 5 beautiful children. Sal became a father at a young age, but as always rose to the occasion and celebrated his children every single day. Salahud-Din will be most remembered for his bright smile, his tenacity, his integrity, and his candidness. Salahud-Din will be sorely and desperately missed, but his impact will be imbedded in the hearts of everyone that knew and loved him.

Salahud-Din married the love of his life in 2007, his wife of thirteen years, Jacqueline Shabazz (VA), who survives along with his oldest child, Amere Anthony Dozier; his four daughters, ZaNiah Shabazz, ZaRiah Shabazz, Zillah Shabazz & Zaila Shabazz; both of his parents, Martha Allen Shabazz (NC) and Muhammad Shabazz I (IN); his siblings, Abdul Shabazz, Aesha Shabazz-Wright, Muhammad Shabazz II, Victor Cummings, Malcolm Parker, LaDonte Shabazz, Melody Shabazz, Rontez Shabazz, RonShad Shabazz and Tamron Shabazz; as well as his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
