Salvadore “Sal” A. Giannicco, 85, passed away on Monday morning, May 18, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. He was born on September 20, 1934 in Chicago, IL, to Antonino and Mary Josephine (Pascale) Giannicco, both of whom preceded him in death.
On October 5, 1964 in Chicago, IL, Sal married the former Patricia A. Loparco, who preceded him in death on June 4, 2018.
Sal is survived by his daughter, Gia (Jamey) Haigh of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Emma, Audrey, Charlie, Jack, Dominic, Thomas and Will; and sister, Mary Ann (Don) Valois of Crestwood, IL. In addition to his parents and wife, Sal was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Madeline.
Sal served his country honorably in the United States Army. He attended community college in the Chicago area and then was employed as a salesperson for industrial pipefittings. He and his wife, Patricia, moved to South Bend in 2013 from Homewood, Illinois, to be closer to his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Thérèse, Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend.
Mass of Christian Burial for Sal will be celebrated privately at St. Thérèse, Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend. Sal will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
