Sandra Smeltzer Obituary

Ms. Sandra Sue Smeltzer, 76, passed away at her residence in Michigan City on the evening of Saturday, November 21, 2020. Sandra was born on January 4, 1944 to the late Morris and Phyllis (Passage) Cloyd.

Sandra was employed as a factory worker for E-Z Heat in New Carlisle and was a long-time member of American Legion Post #297 in New Carlisle. Sandra was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Sandra is survivied by her children: Erin (Michael) Leonard of Michigan City, IN, Dawn (Jeff) Loupee of Cassopolis, MI and Mark Smeltzer of New Carlisle, IN; 12 grandchildren: Jessica Bartkowiak, Aubri Smeltzer, Myranda (Jacob) Schumaker, Noah Smeltzer, Hannah Smeltzer, Ashley Smeltzer, Elijah Michie, Ryan Loupee, Halle Hammer, Patrick Hammer, Jamie Loupee, and Benjamin Leonard; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Connie Walker of South Bend, IN and Cindy Brugh of Gobles, MI; brother Phillip (Dana) Cloyd of Granger, IN; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by a brother who died in infancy and a great-granddaughter, Winifred Schumaker.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and aides from Heart to Heart Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion towards their mother. A special "thank you" to Robin, Carrie and Abby for their kindness and bringing joy to their mother. They would also like to express their appreciation to Cara Ruggles for the amazing care and companionship she gave their mother. She became part of the family and is thought of fondly.

Per the family’s wishes, no public services are currently scheduled. The family will gather privately at a later date to celebrate Sandra’s life.
