Sonny (James) Fox, 79, passed peacefully on September 7, 2021 at Creekside Village, Mishawaka, after a brief illness. Sonny was born in De Kalb, MS on February 15, 1942 to father Cannie Fox and mother Della (Grady) Fox.
Sonny attended school in De Kalb and later relocated to South Bend to live with his sister, Ida McCoy, after the death of his mother. He worked at Torrington as a machinist for 17 faithful years before retiring. He was also a member of AmVets for many years and a member of Kingdom Christian Center, attending under the leadership of his nephew, Pastor Canneth Lee.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Alzada, of 57 years; sons Maurice (Tyka) Phillips of Texas, Rodney (Regina) Phillips of Indianapolis, IN; daughters Cynthia Fox of Dallas, TX and Regina Jones of St. Louis, MO; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a brother, Herman Fox of Stockton, CA; and sisters Helen (Bobby) McCoy of De Kalb, MS and Nora Fox of Stockton, CA.
Sonny was preceded in death by his father, Cannie Fox; his mother, Idella “Della” Grady-Fox; siblings Earl Fox, Lois Miller, Ida McCoy, Kate MacDonald, Roy Fox, Joe Scott, Tommy Fox and Levi Fox; as well as a son, Sonny Lamar Fox.
Services for Mr. Sonny Fox will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Homes – West Chapel, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Pastor Canneth J. Lee will officiate. Burial to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
