Steven E. Berkey

Steven E. Berkey, 71, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away at 9:10 a.m. on Wednesday May 4, 2022, in his home surrounded by family. "Steve" was born on June 5, 1950, to Willis and Sara (Stutzman) Berkey.

He was a Vietnam veteran who was stationed in Korea from 1969-1971.

He returned home and married Pamela K. Hesch (Berkey) in the fall of 1971. They had 2 daughters.  In 1985 they divorced. In 1992 he married Peggy L. Berkey. She had a daughter and a son.

He was a mechanic by trade and worked in RV repair for many years. He retired from Cummins Onan in 2016. He enjoyed visiting with family and having drinks with his friends at his favorite bar. He also enjoyed going to church with his mother every Sunday.

He was preceded in death by Peggy L. Berkey, wife. Debra J. Shoemaker, sister. Willis E. Berkey, father and Marie S. Berkey, stepmother.

He is survived by Sara Berkey, mother. Royce Berkey, brother. Kurt (Tricia) Brandon, brother. Shaila Bazeley, daughter. Sandra (John) Hersom, daughter. Deidra Azevedo, stepdaughter. Gary Davis, stepson.

He had seven grandchildren: Tristan Bazeley, Sariena Bazeley, Reshai Hersom, Travis Hersom, Crystal Bess, Amber Wright, and Dustin Bess.

He also had three great grandchildren: Natalia, Leon and Steven.

He had thirteen nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life on June 11, 2022, at J.D.s Watering Hole at 1109 W. Beardsley Avenue from 1-5pm.
