Steven Kingsberry Obituary

The sun rose for Steven Anthony Kingsberry, 59, on December 12, 1963, in South Bend, Indiana to the union of Josephine and Leroy Kingsberry. As the first born, Steven aka Steve had a quiet and gentle spirit. This created a special and unbreakable bond with his mother.

Steve was a product of the South Bend Community School Corporation and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1982. It was during this period that he engaged in his most loved activity - sports. He was a member of the LaSalle Lions basketball and track teams.

Steve was a hard worker.  He was employed with Vans Floral for over 30 years. Following Vans closing, he began working with Cardinal Transportation. Steve’s calming demeanor led to many requests for him to provide transportation. He transported the Notre Dame Football Team for many years, and he was also known throughout the community as the beloved driver for the Cincinnati Jazz Festival.

Steve also pursued his love for sports and continued to serve his community by coaching at several South Bend Schools. He was former longtime Riley School Assistant Boys Basketball Coach. Sharing his talents and commitment to the youth was a calling for him.  He not only coached the youth but also served as a role model and mentor for many.

Steve’s spiritual journey was solidified when he completed the Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults. He then became a faithful Parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Steve was not only committed to his community, but he was also devoted to his family. He gave unconditional love to his family, and he made sure that they knew how special they were to him.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother and best friend, Josephine Kingsberry of South Bend, two sisters, and special brother-in-law, Patricia and Angelo Burdette of Memphis, Tennessee; and Tracy and Fred Gates of Aberdeen, Mississippi; two brothers, Leroy Kingsberry, often mistaken as his twin, and Grady Harvell; three nieces, Shawdai Kingsberry, Breonna Kingsberry all of South Bend and Shardai (Chigo) Ekeke of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two nephews, Leroy Kingsberry III of South Bend and Antwan Brown of Memphis; and special cousin, Cynthia (Maurice) Burton also of South Bend; along with a host of great nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Kingsberry Sr., a sister, Carla, and a brother, Carl.

Although the sun set on October 2, 2023, Steve’s spirit, and the love for him will last an eternity.
