Sylvia S. (Stephanoff) Kindig

Sylvia S. Kindig, age 85, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana passed away at 2:35 am on Friday, June 4, 2021 at her home.  She retired from Mishawaka Utilities in 2004, after many years of customer service.

Sylvia was born on September 4, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Thomas and Josephine (Szczcpek) Stephanoff and has lived in the Mishawaka area since 1954.  On August 21, 1954 in South Bend, Indiana she was united in marriage to Carlton E. Kindig, Jr., who preceded her in death on December 23, 2013.

Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Carl Simms) Fries of Soddy Daisy, TN, Andrea (John) Alexander of Mishawaka, Melinda (Tom) Davis of Osceola, and Kristina Hanback of Mishawaka; two sons, Carlton (Brenda) Kindig, III and James Kindig, both of Mishawaka; and six grandchildren, Miranda (Jon) Fulmer, Christopher (Kristin) Kindig, Kallie Kindig, Desiree Kindig, Alyxandrea Williams and Carlton Stockbridge; and five great grandchildren.  Also surviving are three sisters, Patricia Smarch of Howard City, MI, Catherine (Jerry) Nemeth of Dearborn, MI and Virginia (John) Spisak of Taylor, MI; and one brother, Thomas (Tina) Stephanoff of Taylor, MI.

Sylvia was a member of the St. Joseph County Republican Party.  She had an artistic flair and enjoyed painting and calligraphy. She had a love for shopping that no one could compare to. Her favorite pastime was shopping with her girls, as well as stopping for Starbucks coffee at the end of the day. Sylvia enjoyed spending time in the summer taking trips with family especially to a family cabin in the upper UP.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home – River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, where friends may visit from 4-8pm on Wednesday and one hour prior to services on Thursday.
