Sylvia Muriel VanKirk

Sylvia M. VanKirk, born February 1, 1942, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was one marked with strength, resilience, and a fighting spirit.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest “Gene” VanKirk; her parents, Harold Davis and Violet Merrill; two brothers; and her son, Ernest VanKirk Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Luann (Rod) Purucker, and her son, Jeffrey VanKirk, as well as two sisters. Sylvia’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Terri (David) Lutes, Jennifer (Bucky) Purucker, Ernest VanKirk III, Michael VanKirk, and Ellen VanKirk. She was also blessed with great‑grandchildren—Gabe Purucker, Chelsea Etling, Hope Purucker, Kaylee Lutes, Kason Lutes, Dylan Webster, Elaina VanKirk, and Robert VanKirk and one cherished great‑great‑grandchild, Ivy Lambert. 

Sylvia loved spending time with family, she enjoyed visits with nieces, Mary and Ellen, boat rides on the lake, bingo, and her computer games.
Sylvia’s life was a testament to love, perseverance, and the quiet strength of a woman devoted to her family. She will be greatly missed.
