Tonya Kay Rains Cox Julian, 55, of Niles, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her home on March 13, 2026, after a courageous fight against cancer. She was born on January 14, 1971, in Muncie, Indiana, to Virginia Kay Rains Crull (preceded in death). On September 15, 2015, she married Mark Julian, and together they shared 10 years of marriage filled with love and adventure.
Tonya was a loving wife, a nurturing mother, and a devoted grandmother and greatgrandmother. She never missed a chance to show her family how much she loved them. Whether it was teaching a gardening tip, sharing a new crochet stitch, tie-dyeing in the backyard, or teaching them how to swim, she did it all with her whole heart. From staying up late working on puzzles to taking cross-town six-wheeler rides just to see them smile, she made every moment meaningful. She was our constant guide and a source of comfort, humor, and unconditional love. She will be remembered as the steady heart of our family, whose love and encouragement shaped who we are today.
Tonya had many passions in life but never missed an opportunity to attend a concert. Whether it was a small performance in the park or a packed stadium, she wanted to be there. If the sun was shining, you could count on her to be fishing or floating.
Tonya was loved by all of her children: Branden Rains (surviving); Kayla Cox and Derrick Cox, (preceded in death) as well as Crystal Julian, Mark Julian Jr., Tashina Myers, David (& Devin) Julian, and Margaret Julian. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Aubree, Cheyanne, Aurora, Riley, Ily, Peyton, Elayna, Cooper, Marlee, Dani, Arya, and Kingston, along with one very special great-granddaughter, Alice. Tonya was also very loved by her sisters Teresa (& Tyson) Johnson and Trisha (& Anthony) Williams, and preceded in death by one sister, Lee Ann. A special thank you to a few friends who's support through this time did not go unnoticed; Rob, Sarah, Alex, Dacia, Becky, Jen.
A celebration of her life will be held in the summer of 2026. Arrangements are pending. Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer Chapel is assisting the family with their obituary. Tonya was very loved by not only her family but by everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed, and her memories will live on for a lifetime.
