Vernalee Long

Vernalee Long, age 93, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025.

She was born to Edward J. Bickel and Nellie A. (Triplett) Bickel, both of whom preceded her in death. On October 8, 1960, Vernalee married the love of her life, Ralph J. Long, with whom she shared many cherished years until his passing on June 20, 2021.

Vernalee is survived by her two children, Susan Peters of Elkhart, Indiana, and James E. Long of Indianapolis, Indiana; two granddaughters, Chantel Peters and Nicole Peters Barricklow; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Warren Bickel of Culver, Indiana.

She was a devoted member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church of South Bend for many years. Vernalee greatly enjoyed traveling, especially alongside her late husband Ralph and close friends. Together, they explored Europe and shared many memorable cruises to Alaska. Her love for adventure, faith, and family defined a life well lived.

In honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no public services are scheduled.
