Veronica "Roni" Thomas

Veronica “Roni” Thomas was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on February 9, 1967, to her parents, Ann L. Johnson and Ervin L. Thomas, and was welcomed by her older brother, Derrick Thomas. Roni, who lived a life filled with laughter, friendship, and unforgettable memories, peacefully departed this life at home on July 22, 2026.

Roni spent her youth in Chicago, Illinois, sharing life with her mother and brother. As a preteen, she moved to Boston, Massachusetts, with her father. Shortly after arriving in Boston, Roni met Linda Taylor, a woman who would become a lasting maternal figure in her life. She was warmly embraced by the entire Taylor family and affectionately became known as a "Thomas-made Taylor."

Roni was known for her generous heart, vibrant spirit, and magnetic personality. Friendly, energetic, and outgoing, she never met a stranger. Always dressed to impress, she carried herself with confidence, grace, and style. She was the life of the party and brought joy wherever she went. Her infectious laugh could light up a room and remains one of the many treasured memories she leaves behind.

Roni was a proud Bostonian and a devoted sports fan whose team spirit was evident in everything she did. Her wardrobe reflected her love for the city and its legendary teams, from the colorful collection of Boston "B" hats she proudly wore to the green of the Celtics, the black and gold of the Bruins, the red and white of the Red Sox, and the red, white, blue, and silver of the Patriots. While she cheered for them all, her heart belonged to the New England Patriots. Alongside family and friends, Roni spent countless hours watching Patriots games, attending themed gatherings, and passionately debating one of football's most talked-about controversies, "Deflategate." Her enthusiasm, loyalty, and unwavering support for her teams brought excitement, laughter, and spirited conversations to those fortunate enough to share those moments with her.

A talented athlete, Roni was an outstanding softball player who proudly participated in an all-female softball league in Boston. Whether on the field or surrounded by family and friends, she approached life with enthusiasm, determination, and a competitive spirit. Roni also had a passion for reading and could often be found with a good book in hand. She especially enjoyed Urban Fiction and mystery novels. Whether following a suspenseful whodunit or immersing herself in a captivating story, reading brought her relaxation and joy.

Seeking a fresh start and new opportunities, Roni moved to her final home in Mishawaka, Indiana, in 2017. There, she found a loving community of friends whom she affectionately referred to as her "sisters-in-love," including, but not limited to, Nadia Henry and Pam Wilson. These cherished friendships, along with the new interests and experiences she embraced, brought Roni immense happiness and a deep sense of belonging. There was always time for gatherings, celebrations, milestones, and laughter, creating memories she treasured deeply. During this chapter of her life, Roni also found a daughter-in-love, LaKayla Harris, whom she loved and cherished as her own. Their bond was a special source of joy and companionship, reflecting Roni's remarkable ability to build lasting and meaningful relationships wherever life led her.

Roni was deeply committed to personal growth and helping others find their way. In 2019, she proudly graduated from Ivy Tech Community College, an accomplishment that reflected her determination and perseverance. Inspired by a desire to make a difference, she aspired to work in the addiction recovery field. She hoped to serve as a resource, guide, and mentor for individuals facing some of life's greatest challenges. With her compassionate spirit, attentive ear, and genuine understanding of people, Roni was passionate about encouraging others on their journey toward healing, hope, and a brighter future.

Of all the roles she cherished and accomplishments she achieved, being a mother was her greatest joy. Roni would talk your ear off about her beloved son, Kevin. "That's my twin," she would say, proudly referring to his devastatingly good looks and chivalrous mannerisms! Yet nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than being a grandmother. Her grandchildren, Kayvon and Katana, were the absolute lights of her life, and she took immense pride in celebrating their accomplishments, showering them with love, and sharing their photos with everyone she knew.

Roni's family was always her first priority. She showered them with gifts, compliments, encouragement, and unconditional love. Family meant everything to her, and she shared an especially close bond with her sister, Euronna. Close in age and inseparable throughout much of their lives, the two did everything together. Their relationship was built on love, loyalty, laughter, and friendship. Affectionately, they called one another "Sissy," a term of endearment that reflected the deep connection they shared. Their bond remained strong through the years and will forever be treasured.

Roni also shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Deuce, who brought her comfort, companionship, and joy. Deuce was more than a pet; he was family, a loyal companion who held a cherished place in her heart. She loved him dearly, and the affection they shared was yet another reflection of Roni's caring spirit.

Roni was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Johnson-Thomas, and her brother, Derrick Thomas. Though they are no longer physically present, the love they shared remains an enduring part of her story and legacy.

Roni leaves to cherish her memory her one and only son, Kevin Thomas; her sister, Euronna Taylor (Darryl Kelley); her brothers, Damion Taylor (Auria Taylor) and Chace Taylor; her beloved grandchildren, Kayvon and Katana Thomas; the Shunamon family; the Taylor family; her sisters-in-love, Nadia Henry (Yakini Henry) and Pam Wilson; her daughter-in-love, LaKayla Harris; her loyal furry companion, Deuce; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends in both Boston, Massachusetts, and Mishawaka, Indiana.

Though her physical presence is gone, her love, laughter, strength, and beautiful spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished and the countless lives she touched.

Lovingly remembered, forever missed, and never forgotten. ❤️
