Virginia (VanLue) Riffel

Virginia (VanLue) Riffel, age 99, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Virginia was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she was very active. She was also very active in the schools her children attended.

Virginia was born August 2, 1918 in South Bend to Harry VanLue and Florence (Pratt) VanLue, who preceded her in death. On April 8, 1934, Virginia married Kenneth W. Riffel, Sr.; Kenneth passed away on October 22, 1998.

Virginia is survived by her daughter Constance Leonhard of South Bend, daughter-in-law Joan Riffel of Mishawaka, son Edward G. Riffel of Palm Springs, CA, grandchildren Cynthia, Karen, Suzan, John Andrew, and Edward M., 11 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and her sister Gertrude Singleton of New Carlisle. Virginia is preceded in death by her son Kenneth W. Riffel, Jr., sister Alice Johnson, and brothers Edward and Raymond VanLue.

A funeral service for Virginia will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Palmer Funeral Home River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow at Hamilton Cemetery in New Carlisle, IN.
