Walter Grzeszczyk

Walter Grzeszczyk, 91, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on May 5, 2026, at 9:06 a.m. at Viva Memory Care, South Bend, IN.

He was born on May 21, 1934, in Terre Coupee, Indiana, to Anthony Grzeszczyk and Sophie (Marshal) Grzeszczyk.

Walter took great pride in his work and providing for his family.  He was the owner and operator of Walt’s Marathon for over 20 years and retired from Certified Transmission in Mishawaka. In early retirement he enjoyed working part-time at Lowes. Through his work, he built lasting relationships and earned the respect of many in his community.

After serving his country in the Marines, on June 8, 1957, he married his bride, Ruth Ann (Vandewalker) that he cherished and together they shared 68 years of love and family life until her passing on May 4, 2026.

Walter is survived by his son, Walter Grzeszczyk of Grass Valley, Oregon and daughters, Dianne (Chris) Bali and Elizabeth Krager, both of South Bend, Indiana. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and great-grandfather to seven. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Gloria Grzeszczyk of Terre Coupee, Indiana, and Bobbie Grzeszczyk of South Bend, Indiana, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved bride, Ruth Ann; his sister, Mary Ann Turczynski; and his brothers, Frank, Paul, and Richard Grzeszczyk.

In accordance with Walter’s wishes, there will be no services held.

Walter will be remembered for his dedication to his family, friends, and community, his strong work ethic and the legacy he leaves behind in both his profession and personal life.
