William Schoenfeld Obituary

William Curtis Schoenfeld, known as Curt, passed away on June 28, 2026, after a brief illness in St. Joseph, Michigan, at the age of 67.

Curt was born on December 27, 1958, in Niles, Michigan, to William Lester Schoenfeld and Betty May Harner, both of whom preceded him in death.

He graduated from River Valley High School in 1977. He was a hard-working man who took pride in doing a job well. He worked as a well driller and was highly skilled in his trade. His knowledge and skill were widely recognized, and he distinguished himself by scoring among the highest results on a professional well drilling test in Indianapolis.

Outside of work, Curt enjoyed cars, music, and cooking. He exercised nearly every day for many years and took pride in maintaining an active lifestyle. He owned many cars throughout his lifetime and was well known and respected for his knowledge of automobiles, particularly muscle cars. Among his most treasured possessions was his 1969 Boss 429 Mustang, which he carefully preserved and protected, keeping it stored away and bringing it out only on rare occasions. He was musical from a young age, beginning with piano and later playing the saxophone. His musical tastes were diverse, with a special appreciation for Tom Petty and Pink Floyd.

Curt will be remembered as intelligent, independent, and a man of strong convictions. He did not like disrespect toward anyone, blunt or subtle. He believed that if everyone were more like that, the whole world would get a tune-up.

He is survived by his son, William Aaron Schoenfeld, and his wife, Rebekah Rose (Oldham) Schoenfeld, of Paw Paw, Michigan; their children, Raelynn Erin Schoenfeld, Johnathan Travis Schoenfeld, Brooklin Juanita Kae Schoenfeld, and Liam Jacob Curtis Schoenfeld; his brother, Douglas Schoenfeld of Honolulu, Hawaii; and his sister, Kathy (Schoenfeld) Mankowski of Niles, Michigan.

A small gathering of family and friends will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan, Michigan on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM.
