William Stewart Obituary

William G. Stewart, 89 years old, peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at his residence in Elkhart. He was born June 1, 1932 in McComas, WV to the late Sylvester Lee and Clois Cherry (Accord) Stewart. In 1952, William married Pauline Mash – they were married for 47 years before her passing in 1999. In 2001 at Calvary Baptist Church in South Bend, William married Anna May Guthrie, who survives. William and Anna just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.

William proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi where he gave his life to God and followed his calling to the ministry.  His life was centered around Jesus and sharing his witness to everyone around him. William served as a Pastor at Mendota Bible Church and North Dupo Bible Church before accepting a position for Accelerated Christian Education, where he was a coordinator for 25 years. Through his work for Accelerated Christian Education, William was able to start over 200 Christian schools in churches throughout Michigan and Indiana. He valued understanding the Bible and spent his free time answering questions on gotquestions.org - faithfully doing so for almost 20 years. He and Anna were also members of Northside Baptist Church in Elkhart. William also loved working with his hands – especially woodworking and spent much time working on the churches he pastored.  He loved to paint and draw. He always enjoyed driving. He dearly loved being with his family.

Along with his wife, Anna, William is survived by his daughters, Brenda Rogers of Mishawaka and Annette Leliaert of Mishawaka; son, Barry (Rachelle) Stewart of Granger; step-daughter, Angie Marciniak of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Melissa (Micah) Towne, Josh Rogers, Matthew Stewart, Cassandra Tengelitsch, and Janae (Josh) Fugate; three great-grandchildren, Maxwell Towne, Tyler Spencer and Olivia Fugate. William is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Walker. Along with his parents and first wife, William is preceded in death by his brothers, Buddy and Lewis Stewart.
