William G. Wagoner

January 1, 1928 – July 18, 2018

William G. “Bill” Wagoner, residing in South Bend, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.  He was 90 years old.

He was born January 1, 1928 in Akron, IN; a son of the late Clifford & Elma (Kamp) Wagoner, and has lived in South Bend since 1949.

On October 17, 1953 in South Bend, Bill was united in marriage to Donnabelle I. Haag. They have enjoyed nearly 65 years of marriage together.  Along with his wife Donna, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James Michael & Dee Wagoner of Mishawaka, his grandson, Scott Thomas Wagoner of Auburn, AL; brother, Merlyn (Willow Mae) Wagoner of Winter Garden, FL; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Jones of New Carlisle, IN; Velma Neely of Columbia, SC; Mary (Ray) Kaiser of Mill Creek, IN; and Ruth Haag of Wyatt, IN.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Allen in 1960, Thomas Allen in 1979, and his brother, Frederick Rueben Wagoner in 2002.

Mr. Wagoner retired in 1995 from Associates Investment Company following forty years of faithful service.  He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force enlisting in May 1946 having been stationed at Clark Field, Phillipines. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in May 1949.

He was a faithful member of Zion United Church of Christ, South Bend, where he served on many boards. He was a member and Past Master of the former Portage Lodge #675, F. & AM., a member of St. Joseph Lodge #45, F. & AM., member and Thrice Potent Master of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and also received the 33rd Degree in 1990 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was a member of Orak Shrine, Michigan City, and an honorary member of Supreme Council-York Rite. He volunteered at Memorial Hospital as an Escort.  Bill and Donna loved to travel, having visited Hong Kong, Hawaii, and four trips to Europe.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, where members of St. Joseph Lodge #45, F. & AM will conduct a masonic memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

Services will be at 11:00a.m. Monday, July 23, at Zion United Church of Christ, 221 So. St. Peter Street. South Bend, where visitation will also be one hour prior to the service.  Rev. Peg Faulmann will officiate.  Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
