Willie Harlon Weeks

Willie Weeks, 86, of Granger passed away at 5:00 a.m. Sunday, February 21, 2021 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center from heart complications.  Willie was born September 24, 1934 in Cypress Inn, TN to the late Lily C. (Burns) and Charley Weeks and had lived in the Michiana area since 1949 coming from Tennessee.  He was preceded in death by his five brothers and sisters, Paul, Eugene, Virginia, Juanita, and Catherine.  On November 17, 1952 in South Bend he married Helen M. Gyori who has been his loving wife for 68 years.  She survives along with their three children, sons, Dan Weeks (Linda) of Edwardsburg, MI, and Mike Weeks of Cordova, SC, and daughter, Nancy Collins of Granger.  He enjoyed his three grandchildren, taking them camping, to baseball games, and fishing.  They are Nora Luke (Nikali), Devin Mawhorter (Dion), and Eric.  He also had four great-grandchildren, Rea’l, Hannah, Lenix, and Henley.

Willie worked a Uniroyal for many years as well as Adams & Westlake.  He retired from the City of South Bend Street Department as a supervisor.  Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling stories.  He loved NASCAR and camping.  Most of all he loved going to car shows and winning trophies with his red 1965 Chevy short bed truck where he would meet his friends and new people who would be considered his friends too.  Women’s basketball became a great retirement pastime for him by going to the Notre Dame women’s games, watching them on television or listening on radio.  He loved the meet and greets with the women’s team and meeting Muffet.  He also loved the WNBA and would watch all the time.

Funeral services for Willie will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 25th in the Palmer Funeral Home – Welsheimer North Chapel, 17033 Cleveland Rd.  Committal services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday in the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the family requests masks and social distancing be observed.
