Joann Dorsch Obituary

Joann Ruth Dorsch, 91, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away at 10:09 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Joann was born November 16, 1934, to the late Frank and Edna (Bunnell) Rawles. In 1955 she married Robert E. Dorsch, who preceded her in death at the Cathedral of St. James in South Bend.

Survivors are two daughters, Candis McCarthy and Julie (Kenneth) Selby and one son, Robert E. Dorsch Jr. (Wendy) of Mishawaka. Also surviving grandchildren, Stephanie Selby, Evan Selby, Coral Dorsch, Cade Dorsch and two great grandchildren; Nicholas McCarthy and Carson McCarthy. She was preceded by her parents, husband, Jennifer McCarthy, and Thomas McCarthy. Surviving as well, her sisters; Shirley Allison, Janet (Larry) Thompson, and Donna Baker.

Joann was employed as a dental assistant before her children were born. She was a 60-year committee member of John Adams Alumni, a Girl Scout leader of the “Brownies”. Served many committees at St. James Church and kitchen duty and taught Sunday school for many years. She also volunteered with the South Bend School Corporation. Served as treasury of the lady's guild of “Professional Engineers of Indiana.”

She really enjoyed her grandchildren, their activities and accomplishments and shopping with them.

A memorial service take place on Friday, June 5, at 10:00 a.m. at The Cathedral of St. James, 117 North Lafayette Blvd., South Bend with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
