Julie Ann Flanagan

Julie A. Flanagan, 62, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on February 22, 2021. 

Julie attended Jackson and Riley High Schools, earned a B. Ed. at Indiana University Bloomington and an M. Ed. from IUSB. During her long career in education in South Bend, she taught at St. Jude's Elementary School, a juvenile detention facility, and Navarre and Jackson Middle Schools. Although illnesses and the school system often made it difficult in recent years, she never gave up trying to do her best for her students.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Claire and John Flanagan.

Julie is survived by her longtime companion, Rick Kimmel; his children, Chelsea (Bryan) Borton and Kyle Kimmel; her sister, Mary Kay Flanagan; her brother, Kevin (Lisa) Flanagan; her beloved nieces and nephews, Haley, John, Molly, and Tim; her godson, Scott Frisz; close cousins; Pat and Bill Gast; and many dear friends.

A celebration of life service for Julie will be held this summer when we can all safely gather together again. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
