Paulette Marcelle Stanage, a beacon of love and warmth, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024, in Mishawaka, Indiana, at the age of 99. Born on January 30, 1925, in Lille, France, to the late Paul and Alma (Freitag) Polaërt, Paulette's life journey was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family, her passion for service, and her kind-hearted nature.
Paulette's early years in France laid the foundation for a life characterized by resilience and grace. Her transition to the United States brought new beginnings, and it was here that she met and married the love of her life, Frederick D. Stanage, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a family that became Paulette's pride and joy. She is survived by her loving children, Simone (Raul Acevedo) Stanage of Edwardsburg, MI, and Robert E. (Sheila) Stanage of South Bend, IN. Paulette was a cherished grandmother to Denise (Bob) Sonneborn, Debbie (Steve) Grossnickle, Robb (Mary) Hardman, Sherry (Mike) Szuba, and Bobbiejean (John Winters) Stanage. Her siblings, Simone Long, Denise Cougeron, and Roger Polaërt preceded her, leaving her sister Giselle Chaunet to remember her fondly.
Paulette's professional life was dedicated to nurturing others through her work in food service for the South Bend School Corporation and the Notre Dame campus kitchen. Her caring hands and warm smile were a comfort to many over the years. Her colleagues and those she served will remember her as a pillar of strength and kindness in the community.
Above all, Paulette's life was a testament to the love she had for her family. She was the heart of family gatherings, where her presence was a source of joy and comfort. Her love for animals reflected her compassionate spirit, and she extended her caring nature to all living creatures. Paulette's home was a haven where everyone felt welcomed and loved.
