Royce Hartsough Obituary

Royce L. Hartsough, known affectionately as Royce to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024, in South Bend, IN, due to a coronary event. Born on September 1, 1937, in North Liberty, IN, Royce was a man whose life was characterized by his faith, love, and wisdom. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Hartsough, their children, Dave and Mindy Hartsough, Laura and Mike Edwards, Amy and Bill Wyand, and his cherished eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Royce's journey began in a small Indiana town, but his aspirations and accomplishments were anything but small. An alumnus of Indiana University, Royce's passion for chemistry led him to a fulfilling career as a Sales Representative for Ashland Chemicals and later as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative for Pfizer. His professional achievements, however, were only a part of what made him a respected and admired figure in his community.

Music and gardening were the melodies and rhythms of Royce's life outside work. He was a proud member of the IU Singing Hoosiers, the South Bend Symphonic Choir, and the choir at his local church. His love for music was matched only by his talent for playing the piano and organ, which brought joy to many. Royce's green thumb flourished in his large vegetable garden, a testament to his patience and nurturing spirit. He shared this passion with his children, teaching them the value of hard work and the beauty of nature's bounty.

Royce's legacy also included a pond he built, which served as a centerpiece for family gatherings and countless memories of fishing, skating, and swimming. His commitment to his faith was evident through his active involvement in his local church and the Word of Life Ministry. Known for his gift of hospitality, Royce frequently opened his home for church youth activities, creating a welcoming space for fellowship and growth.

Throughout his life, Royce and his wife Ann embarked on adventures that took them across the globe, including trips to Ecuador, the United Kingdom, and Italy. These experiences not only enriched their lives but also allowed them to share stories that inspired others to explore and appreciate the world's diverse cultures.

Royce's character can be summed up in the words of the Bible, which he held dear: "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). His unwavering faith, love for his family, and wisdom in guiding those around him were the cornerstones of his existence.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered, and Royce L. Hartsough will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit, teachings, and the memories he created will forever be treasured by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched. The echo of his laughter, his happy whistle, the warmth of his smile, and the resonance of his voice in song will continue to live in the hearts of those who loved him.

Royce's journey on earth has concluded, but the impact of his life will continue to ripple through generations. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we do so with the comfort of knowing that his legacy is one of love, service, and the joy of a life well-lived.
