South Bend - Margaret was born in Elkhart IN to Hermann and Margarthe Wagner. Margaret married William T. Whipkey on November 14, 1953 in South Bend. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 half-sisters, 3 brothers and 1 sister. She is survived by her sister Helen Bentzen, her husband William, 4 children Thomas, James, Anna, and Jerome, 4 grandchildren Beth, Erik, Fredrick, and Katerina, 3 great grandchildren Nova, Wren, and Elisha, and many nieces, nephews, and their children.

Margaret was employed at Bendix for 15 years in accounting, 15 years at home raising her children, and 13 years as a receptionist for Dr. Bell, retiring in 1984.

Margaret was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ. Her service there includes Sunday school teacher, Women's Guild/Sisters of Faith and the Missions Ministry. She served on the Literacy Council teaching English speaking and ESL students. She served as a counselor for the Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program.

Margaret was well known for her Christmas cookies especially Springerle, her Stollen, and her German potato salad.  Her cooking legacy lives on through her 32 recipes in the Zion UCC Sisters of Faith cook book.

A memorial service will be held Friday September 4, 2015 at 10am at Zion United Church of Christ 211 S. St. Peter St. South Bend IN.  Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services at the church.  Internment of her ashes in Zion's cemetery will follow the service. The celebration of Margaret's life will continue with a light meal at the church.

Contributions in memory of Margaret may be made to Zion United Church of Christ and to Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN.
