We are honored and give thanks to REAL Services for presenting Palmer Funeral Home with the 2017 Business of the Year Award. The mission of REAL Services begins with the words,"Believing in the dignity of all people!" the recipient of this year's Business of the Year Award clearly operates on the same philosophy. This Business excels at customer service and the employees treat each person with dignity and respect when discussing personal and sometimes emotional life issues. They have been particularly caring in making funeral arrangements for those who have no family or friends. REAL Services is legal guardian for many who have little or no money to pay for services, but regardless of financial resources, our Business of the Year still helps to plan respectful, memorable, and reverent funeral services, just like they would for any other family. This Business works with others in the community to find resources and options. In one instance, they were able to get flowers donated for the service for an elderly woman who was 101 years old at her death. She had no money, no family, and only REAL Services Guardianship staff to mourn her death. At times, nursing home staff may be the only family of an elderly patient who has passed away. This thoughtful funeral home provides memorial services at the nursing facility to honor not only the life of the deceased but also to show appreciation for the compassion that the nursing home caregivers have provided and to acknowledge the loss they too are suffering. An outstanding business in our community with a strong commitment to serving the elderly with dignity and compassion.
Thank you to the entire Palmer Funeral Home family for the beautiful memorial service you hosted. It was beautiful from the beginning to end, from the significance of the candle lighting, to the beautiful song by Betsy, to Mr. Crump's comforting and encouraging words, the remembrance tree, the video remembrance, it was all beautiful and comforting. Thank you for the ornament also. Our family decided to pass it to one another each year and share it. Thank you to everyone of you for such a memorable service. The Palmer Funeral Home family has a heart of compassion and caring for others. Thank you from our grateful hearts.
Rick - I wanted to thank you for being so helpful during our fathers service. I have no complaints just appreciation for you and the staff at Palmer. Thank you, Yanira
Dear Rick, Thanking you for all your service, guidance and assistance with the burial of my mother-in-law's, Ruth Wade's ashes. Kerry and I were both relieved to have Palmer's by our side who could be trusted with the details. I've personally been grateful to the Palmer family, as you know, for their strong ties to the community, and indeed their history with the Wade family. Norm Bone was my first introduction to the specialness of Palmer's, with my father-in-law's funeral (Wyndel Wade) and then with my husband, Wynn's, in 2006. Then Kristi and K.R.'s help with my husband's marker (a coup for keeping the industry local and family owned, if there ever was one!) and now your warm and attentive service - all combined to let me see that Palmer's is in a sense extended family, there to serve as guide and chaperone through one of life's most important, perhaps the most important, transitions. Many thanks, Barbara Wade
I just wanted to send a thank you to you and your staff for your professionalism and respectfulness for the care of my uncle, J. Mark Funderburg. I was impressed by the actions of you and your staff during his funeral service on Friday, June 3. I know this has been a very difficult time for our family. Thank you again for your help and for your compassion in a very difficult circumstance.
My uncle, Mark Funderburg, recently passed away. His passing was not unexpected, but still difficult. I live in Fort Wayne, IN and travelled to South Bend, IN for the funeral services. I was impressed by the compassion and professionalism demonstrated by your staff at his funeral service. In a very difficult time, your staff was respectful and considerate of the difficult circumstances.
I cannot begin to say how wonderful all the people are at Palmer Funeral Home. I came to them not really knowing what direction to turn. I first spoke with Kerry and he was very supportive and helpful. I then worked on services, with Tracy, for both my father and mother, and all I can say is that he is "The Best". My immediate need was for my father, and then unfortunately, I needed their help again, with services for my mother. The understanding, supportiveness and the respect they gave my parents and my family was so appreciative. I will always remember everyone's kindness.
I first came to know the Palmer staff firsthand through its pet cremation services when Jamie Hall delivered Midnight's ashes to me. A once wild cat who had adopted me, losing Midnight was hard, but Jamie was so kind and it led to a conversation about pre-planning for my mother who had been in serious decline for some time. When my mother, Marianne Munzel, passed away this August, the pre-planning proved to be a godsend. The care, compassion, expert professional help, and follow through -- also with the funeral home and cemetary in Atlanta (where the services were held) -- were phenomenal. Three words kept being used by everyone who participated in the services: beautiful, dignified, first class. The thanks for that obviously go to a number of people involved, including the Pastor who superbly led the service itself, but in large measure they go to Donna Adkins at Palmer. Donna went above and beyond to attend to every detail, to connect all the dots, and to comfort me throughout the entire process. So much could have gone wrong, especially given that we were crossing state lines, making arrangements long distance, and connecting with a funeral home in Atlanta. Instead, everything went absolutely seamlessly and efficiently; indeed, the various professionals in Atlanta commented to me how impressed they were with Donna's professional handling and interactions with them. At the same time she remained attentive to me as the grieving family member in need of that attention and support not only during the whole event, but also afterwards. One cannot ask for more.
I want to thank Donna for all her help with planning my brother in-laws funeral. My brother and I tried talking with many different funeral homes to try and arrange his husbands funeral, but since there was no money they didn't want to help, Donna went out of her way to make sure that my brother in-law was taken care of. They were kind, and very considerate. I will recommend Palmers to everyone I know. Thank you all for your kindness.
Pet services took care of my sweet boy, Clapton. He had a sudden change in his health. I was so glad to have Palmer & cremation as an option for our pup when we had to make decisions unexpectedly. The Palmer pet service staff were very compassionate and it was comforting that they were able to pick him up at the vet after we had said our goodbyes. His ashes were ready quickly & we have a nice memorial paw print to remember him by.
They picked up our baby girl Lucy a miniature Doxie from the vet and took the best of care of her. We picked her up at the cremation facility and she was in a cute little urn. Thank you Palmer Funeral Home!
I really can't say enough nice things about Palmer pet services. Everyone was kind and helpful and I got my best friend's ashes back very quickly.
Just wanted to thank you for everything. You were absolutely wonderful and made this so much easier to get through.
Thank you so much for all the care and attention for my dad, Bill Webster. Everything was made easier by their preplanning! But also from the meeting with Greg the day he passed to the driving by Jill to the cemetery. It was so nice to have Norm and Tracy there as well that have known my parents for years. I know my mom felt more comfortable with them there. Your special attention to her was appreciated by us - and I'm sure my dad would have been pleased as well. Even though he was 91 and had been at Northwoods for almost a year - it was a difficult event. Everyone involved made it a bit easier. Palmer's was a blessing to our family! Thank you!
Rick, I just wanted to thank you for your professionalism and steady manner in what was a difficult time. You showed a lot of patience with our questions and showed a lot of empathy. I appreciate it. I am sure your job is fairly thankless, so I just wanted to make sure you know you are doing a good job. Thanks again
Our thanks to you for making our load a whole lot lighter.
You answered so many questions and were always there to assist.
The beautiful memory book is unbelievable. It is really helpful.
Dad always thought a lot of you and would have been very pleased.
To the staff of Palmer Funeral Home,
We want to thank you for the kind and professional way in which you handled every detail of Irene's funeral. You made a very difficult situation bearable. It was a pleasure dealing with each staff member.
We can't thank you enough for all that you did for us during the death of my Dad. Your generosity, kindness, compassion did not go unnoticed! You are amazing.
You handled everything with class and it was a beautiful tribute to my Dad! What a blessing you are! The flowers were gorgeous!
We would like to thank Palmer's for giving our father a wonderful, beautiful funeral. Something we could of not done without you. Also a special thanks to Tom and Donna for being so caring and kind to us, and for going above and beyond what you had to do. We will always have you in our hearts.
Russell Hooker's girls
My mother passed away suddenly and her funeral was handled by Donna at Palmer's, all I can say was that this is the best service I have ever received, during a difficult time they were patient and accomodating to my large and demanding family and took all of our cultural requests into consideration. They are the best in the business.
There is not a thank you note big enough for me to express my gratitude for all the kindness and respect your staff gave to my deceased husband and my family. Everyone from the time of picking up his body through aftercare have showed a deep level of compassion and respect to all of us. It really helped in getting through this time.
It has been a month since my precious dog died. I could not do it at the time, but I wanted to let everyone know how amazing Palmer Funeral Home is with their pet services. Not only have they taken care of our human family for decades, but they really helped us deal with the death of our precious pet who was just as much a part of our family. I highly recommend them and thank them for always being a source of strength, comfort and support.
"Thank you for the wonderful service you provided for my Aunt Mary Alice Fry. We are grateful for the kindness and compassion you showed us during every step of the process, and we couldn’t have been happier with the final result. We will be eternally grateful for everything you have done, and we cannot tell you how much we appreciate your help making such a difficult time a little easier to deal with.
I gave my father George Listenberger a good report."

Karry And Staff Thank You All For Your Patience And Assistance With My Sister Irene Roof Your All An Angel In My Eyes Thank You From The Bottom Of My Heart God Bless
I recently went to a showing/funeral of a family member. I was so impressed by the way you took so much care in taking care of our loved one. She looked amazing, tasteful, and beautiful like she looked 10 years prior to her death. Though I have made different funeral arrignments with another funeral home, I wish I had made them with you. You are really the best when it comes to our "last wishes" I thank God for your dedication to all the love ones that have passed; Unfortunately I didn't realize just how much work, effort and dedication you give to all that use your services. A day late and a dollar short to use your services. Amazing is the only way to describe the dedication and detail you used in our time of need.May God bless you abundantly in years to come. Awesome funeral home that you should take great pride in your work. Thank you will never be enough to express my appreciation to detail. You are the "bomb" when it comes to taking care of loved ones! Prayers to you and your family. I am eternally grateful
Dear Palmer family and staff, I wish to thank you for the great service you extended to me and my family on mom's passing. You made our time of sorrow so much easier to bare.
In 2002 we lost our dad. and you also did a wonderful job at that time too.
On behalf of my family I would like to extend our greatest gratitude for the assistance you provided in the preparation of the funeral for our mother, Shirley Shaw. Without your overwhelming compassion I am uncertain how we could have financially provided the type of service we were able to give to our mother. The service held for her at the Hickey Chapel was beautifully done.
Your staff made the incredibly difficult process as effortless as possible. From Christy to Tom, and everyone in between, we would like to extend our hands of thanks to you and your staff. If there is ever anything I can do for you please do not hesitate to call upon me.
Thanks very much for everything you did for my daughter's Amber Nicole Mitchell june22,2012 service at palmer's -you made her, so beautiful - just wanted you to know everything was perfect ....she's in God's hand now...I recommend your services to anyone who's looking for a caring warm compassionate service for your loved one...

Thank you so much for your continued support and for your innovative approach to facilitating additional contributions to our organization.
All the Best,
Dear K.R. and entire Palmer Family,
This year's Age of Excellence Awards Luncheon was the best ever because of your support and partnership. Over 728 attendees were thrilled with Amy Grant, the music, the rose presentation, inspiring stories and the contributions of our nominees; and of course, the celebration of nine award winners.
Your sponsorship was vital to making Age of Excellence successful and with grateful hearts, we again say "thank you."
We look forward to the 2014 Age of Exellence Awards where we will continue the tradition of honoring the elderly in our five-county area as well as the coregivers and volunteers who serve them.

Donna and Don were exceptional to our family and friends during our tremendous time of grief. We especially appreciated Donna's sensitivity and patience dealing with our needs. They worked tirelessly behind the scenes so that we could give our loved one the goodbye she deserved.
Recently my family experienced the unexpected death of my lovely sister, Diana Ruiz. It was an immensely sad and difficult time for all of us. It was refreshing to know that there was a place our family could be guided thru the funeral process with ease and comfort. Donna (Adkins) was epecially thoughtful and caring, as well as knowledgeable. Her services were greatly appreciated. Thank you, K.R. Palmer!
Diana and I were the oldest sisters among the five younger brothers that we adored. I just wanted to give my gratitude to your services for the care you gave during my sisters memorial services. You were blessed in witnessing such a cohesive family unity as you seen in our family. I thank you for your gentle care in services with my sister Diana whom was the brightest light in our family scheme.
K.R. and Staff of the River Park Location
I would like to thank you so very much on behalf of my sisters and brother. The compassion you and your staff showed our Mother and our family, from the time Mom was picked up at my sister's home in Indianapolis, to the day she was laid to rest here in South Bend. You made a very sad and difficult time for our family much easier. My family and my husband's family have used your River Park Location several times over many years and you have never let us down. Again thank you so much.
The family of Lila Shisler
Would like to thank you and let you know that we truly appreciated your attentions as our family went through such a difficult time. Such a hard time for a family was made much easier thanks to you. We will forever be grateful for you and your services.
'Just want to thank you for your kindness, thoughtfulness and careful consideration of our family during our recent loss. We appreciate your attention to seemingly, every detail through the planning process as well as every ceremony and service. It's apparent you work well together as brothers and owners, but also with your extended family, your team of employees. Communication is so important in any setting and it seems you've mastered it.
Thanks so much for taking good care of our family. On behalf of our family, I extend our appreciation of your friendship and support - through the years. I also recognize you both visited during - what was to be - your scheduled time off. So, thank you for your sacrifices and smiles along the way.
I'm so grateful to know you and have your support during our family's transition. Best and warm regards,
My father became ill within the last couple of years and our family thought we would be prepared for what would one day happen. Someday came suddenly, and after all that has been said and done, I do not know what we would of done without all of the help, support, and absolute kindness that the funeral home has shown us. The staff are angels in disguise with patience that is so terribly difficult to find in this day and age. They walked us through everything one step at a time and were brave enough to stand by our side when the aftermath of a passing became down right ugly. Letting a loved one go is never an easy task to say the least, but with the generous help of Palmer's, it made the entire experience one worth remembering for the rest of my own personal existence.
Words will never express just how deeply appreciative I will forever be because of you and your staff going above and beyond any expectations I ever had. It takes a special heart to do what you do, and do you it better than any group of people I have ever known. Your kindness has changed me, and I can only hope I can make the same difference in another's life one day - as you did mine.
Thank you for all that you have done.
I chose Palmer Funeral Home because of its impeccable reputation. Everyone I spoke to said Palmer is a level above, and my experience reflected that perfectly.
Donna, in particular, made the whole process extremely easy. She took the initiative to guide me to alternate ways of taking care of the finances, which saved me a considerable amount of money. Donna even served as an advocate for me in working with the bank where my deceased brother had an account. She initiated the procedure and then followed up successfully when it seemed that things had encountered an impasse.
I can't say enough about both Donna and Palmer. A genuine pleasure to be served by them!
Los Angeles, CA
I'm writing on behalf of my family for the way your staff helped following the loss of our mother Thelma Bjork. We probably wouldn't have considered Palmer's had it not been for the information we received through Golden Living Nursing Home on 12th Street in Mishawaka. From the moment I received the call from them that mom had taken a turn for the worst, it took only one phone call to set the process in motion. This was a relief for my brothers, and especially for my wife and me since we were out of the state. Your folks were professional in the way they asked how we wanted mom to be taken care of since we were operating on a very limited budget. Greg and his wife at your River Park Chapel made several suggestions that we felt were perfect for the situation. Greg made himself available the entire time answering any questions we had, and following the service he helped in the selection of urns by giving us individual choices for each of us to remember and cherish her forever.
We are grateful for all the wonderful help and respect you gave our mom and family.
January 17 at 1:07pm. I cannot express my sincere thanks to you all for your pet services! We had to put our sweet boy Rodeo down this past Tuesday. It was the hardest day of our lives! Your services helped us tremendously making this terrible process a little bit better! We cannot thank Jamie enough for her professional and caring demeanor. Thank you for doing this for animal lovers! They are truly part of our family.
Dear Palmer Staff, On behalf of myself and the family of my brother Earl Dean Shull, Jr. a huge thank you for a beautiful, beautiful funeral. And extra gratitude for Donna, who sat with my sister and me to solve a couple more issues. Palmer's go above and beyond in service, compassion and the the care.
Dear Palmer Funeral Home owners and staff, Congratulations on being honored at the Real Services Luncheon yesterday for being the Business of the Year. Many of us want to ignore end-of-life and pre-planning issues, and you have made them your life's work. Thank you for your service to our marginalized neighbors.
Congratulations on having received the Business of the Year Award. This award recognized your generosity and thoughtful support for those in need.
REAL Services sponsors the Age of Excellence Awards Luncheon each year to acknowledge those in the community who have provided exemplary service to older adults, the disabled and those of our low-income population.
We received nearly 260 nominations from LaPorte, Marshall, Kosciusko, Elkhart, Fulton and St. Joseph counties. The selection committee reviewed each nomination and chose you as the one who best represented this award category. The decison was made based on the incredible work you do in touching the lives of others.
Many people see the needs around them, but not everyone commits to doing something about it. You chose to make a difference and in doing so, have impacted the lives of others in immeasurable ways.
It is a privilege for us to honor you today. Good works should be acknowledged and we appreciate the opportunity to thank you. We want you to know that your hard work and commitment is not only noticed but sincerely appreciated.
Thank you for your excellent professionalism regarding our father's funeral arrangements. Your concern and support in meeting our needs was greatly appreciated.
Liz, Rosemary, Al Jr. & Patty
A little over three months ago, you helped my family through a very difficult time. My only grandmother took a quick turn for the worse and was finally free of pain, struggles, and worry. She was ready to go, even if I was not prepared for her death. Your staff was able to quickly make all of the needed arrangements when my family was still numb with shock and sadness. Even now, it seems like it never happened. I want to thank you for the care, support and direction you provided for us during such a difficult and heart breaking time. You did everything possible to make it as easy for us as you could. I don't think I have ever seen my grandma look so young and beautiful as she did at her funeral. Your team did an amazing job and I know she and my grandpa would have been proud to be seen like that. Thank you, Erin
Our mother passed away on July 25th 2010 and our family was struggling through this very difficult time. We knew she was going to pass away at home peacefully but we weren't really prepared for it when the time came. Your staff was so kind and helpful. He came back to the house and gave us time to get organized and have everything ready for the obituary and services. He guided us through the process and made it as peaceful for us as possible. He was very efficient and we trusted him completely. Our mother had been through a terrible struggle at the end of her life and did not look like herself at all by the end. She was so thin and just not looking like herself when she passed. Your team tried their very best to make our mother look like she used to. It had to be a hard process and we appreciate your best efforts. She looked as good as she could under the circumstances and for that we thank you.
Thank You, Maria Saviano
Thank you for all the attention to detail for my Father's funeral.
Everyone felt so warm and loved in your environment.
The staff felt like family and were so caring! The video was a wonderful touch.
Our family would not have been so relaxed without you handling everything in this stressful time.
Sincere thanks to Kerry and the Palmer family for compassionate and capable service during our recent loss.
Your experience and professionalism were exceeded only by your thoughtfulness and commitment in going the extra mile to make the process as simple as possible.
Without reservation, we strongly recommend Palmer for any family during their time of need.
Kerry Palmer and all,
We cannot begin to express our gratitude for the way you handled Mom's funeral arrangements. Our family, living out of town; you were there at every step and made sure every detail was covered. In short you made a difficult time so much more bearable.
Again, please extend our deepest gratitude to all involved.
Thank you, The Carol L. Kuzmits Family
Dear Mr. Palmer and your staff,
Yesterday you laid our mother Carolyn Stein into the ground. All of us present commented on what a beautiful job you did. I don't believe anyone could have arranged everything so beautifully.
We want to thank you from our hearts - on behalf of all Carolyn's family. We will recommend your services to anyone.
God bless you in your ministry to people.
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for - and certain of what we do not see"
We con't thank you enough for your patience and assistance during this difficult time for our family. You made what could have been a very confusing and difficult process much easier and more bearable, and we are all grateful.
Thank you for all your support and care for the family of James C. Hurdt.
We are always interested in hearing from the families that we serve. Please take a moment to let us know how well we served you in your time of need. We very much appreciate your feedback.
