Norma Jean (Levinson) Jaques

Norma Jean (Levinson) Jaques, 69, passed away peacefully at home with her family on Sunday, January 8, 2017. She was born in Denver, CO, on June 4, 1947 to Dora and Martin Levinson. Norma was the youngest of two daughters. She married Doug Jaques in Denver, CO, on August 8, 1971. In 2016, they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Doug and Norma first lived in Chicago, IL, where they were both teachers. Later, they moved to Mishawaka, IN, to be around Doug’s family.

Norma graduated from University of Colorado with a degree in English. When she moved to the Mishawaka area, she began teaching at Indiana University at South Bend where she received her Master’s in English. Norma retired from IUSB in 2001 to help watch her first grandchild who was born that year.

Norma is survived by her husband, Doug Jaques; daughter, Michelle (Brandon) Ruth of Granger, IN; son, Bob (Danna) Jaques of Osceola, IN; beloved sister, Sharon Sanders of Aurora, CO; and most cherished grandchildren, Gavin Ruth, Payton Ruth, Carson Jaques, Coen Jaques, and Casen Jaques. She is preceded in death by her grandparents; beloved father, Martin Levinson; and brother-in-law, Paul Sanders.

Norma loved spending time with her grandchildren most of all. She loved to read and watch Fox News to keep up on all the political fun that the country was going through. Norma was a huge dog lover and greatly missed all of her pets. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and having annual New Year’s Eve parties. She enjoyed all of her friends in her euchre club. Norma had a very close friend, Karen Lelaiert, whom she loved spending time with.

Funeral services for Norma will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Clay Church, 52866 N. Ironwood Rd, South Bend, IN 46635. Rev. Brian Durand will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00-11:00am on Wednesday, prior to the service. Norma’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Palmer Funeral Homes—Hickey Chapel for assisting the family with arrangements.
