Paul "Bud" Hertel, Jr.

Paul “Bud” Hertel, Jr., 90 years old, passed away on Saturday morning, October 17, 2015 at Woodland Terrace, Niles, MI.  Mr. Hertel was born on February 26, 1925 in South Bend to the late Paul and Alice (Peterson) Hertel.  He has been a lifelong resident of South Bend.  On June 3, 1949 in South Bend, Paul was united in marriage to Norma L. Klein who survives.

Along with his loving wife of 66 years, Norma, survivors include their three children, Karen S. (David) Johnson of Melbourne, FL, Danny P. Hertel of Osceola, and Scott E. (Kathy) Hertel of Granger; eight grandchildren, Jacqui (Israel) Woodard, Matthew (Melisa) Hertel, Jason (Amanda) Hertel, Adam (Mary) Hertel, Andrew (Maeve) Hertel, Kyle Hertel, Alyssa Hertel, and Shanna Hertel; ten great grandchildren, Laine, Lilli, Louisa, Matheson, Lindy, Aidan, Riley, Evan, Jordan, Brittany, and Alyssa; and one brother-in-law, Carl Martz of South Bend.  Paul was preceded in death by his two sisters, Jean Louise Adams and Ruth A. Martz, and one brother-in-law, Morris Adams.  

Mr. Hertel retired on February 23, 1990 as a tool maker with Adams Engineering after 43 years of employment.  He was a member of Southlawn United Methodist Church in South Bend.  Mr. Hertel proudly served his country during WWII with the United States Marine Corp.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Fraternal Order of the Elks, Viking Ski Club, and MBA Bike Club.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend.  Military graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.  Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20th, at the funeral home.
