Albert E. “Gene” Armato, 79, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 4:40pm Sunday, March 15, 2015 in Golden Living Center - Fountainview Place. He was born June 28, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late Albert and Martha (Ferry) Armato.

On August 16, 1980 in South Bend, Gene married the former Kathleen C. Loef, who survives. He is also survived by daughters, Kris Ann Knight of Illinois, Gena (Mark) Wagner of Louisville, KY and Cheryl (Jim) Taylor of Mishawaka; sons, Mark Armato of Rockford, IL, Scott Armato of Louisville, KY and Timothy (Sheryl) Farley of South Bend; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his sister, Gerri (Ronald) Granberg of Rockford, IL. Gene was preceded in death by a daughter, Merrilee Armato; and his brother, Robert “Butch” Armato.

Gene served his country honorably in the United States Army. He worked for Kenosha Corporation in Kenosha, WI for several years. He then worked for South Bend Lathe for thirteen years before retiring in 1990 as vice president. Gene was a member of the Mishawaka Elks Lodge. He was an avid fan of both Frank Sinatra and Ann-Margret, of which he had a large collection. He also loved photography and collected cameras, as well as dolls and bb guns.

Cremation will take place. Graveside services and military honors will be take place in the near future at Southlawn Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
