Betty Mae Cassler, 85, residing in South Bend, went to be with the Lord at 3:34 pm Sunday, May 1, 2016 in Hospice House of South Bend. She was born May 20, 1930 in South Bend to the late Charles Leroy and Tekla (Hokanson) Hess, and remained a lifelong area resident. Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Cassler; brothers, Charles, Carl and Henry Hess; sister, Elsie Wooley; and daughter, Linda Simpson.
Betty is survived by one brother, George Hess of California; one sister, Grace Geraghty of Indiana; sons, John (Kathy) Cassler, Richard Cassler and Gary (Shannon) Cassler; daughters, Victoria Blakely and Nancy (Walter) Singleton; and grandchildren, Stephanie Blakely, Gary (Kara) Cassler, Joshua Zillmer, Sherry Cassler, Stephen Silvers, Kristen Silvers, Travis (Taylor) Silvers, Jennifer (Tyler) Silvers, Walter (Heather) Singleton, Jason (Allison) Singleton, Ann (Brian) Businger, Jacob (Katie) Singleton, Cody (Lindsey) Cassler, Courtney Cassler, Tammy (T.J.) Mitchell, James Simpson, Ryan (Mary) Cassler, Haley Cassler and Ashley Cassler; as well as twenty one great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Betty enjoyed playing card games with her sisters and grandchildren. She loved holidays spent with her family. She had many friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Memorial services for Betty will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 7, 2016 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services. Graveside services and interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. The family will be hosting a gathering after services on Saturday at New Beginnings Community Fellowship, 19688 Kern Road, South Bend. All guests are welcome.
