Donald R. Moutray 

October 3, 1930 – July 20, 2016

MISHAWAKA – Donald R. Moutray, CLU, ChFC, LUTCF, 85 years old, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana passed away at 4:05 pm Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Hospice House, South Bend surrounded by his loving family. 

Don was born on October 3, 1930 in Mattoon, Illinois to the late James A. Moutray and Clara H. Empson Moutray.  He married Louella Wiseley Moutray, who preceded him in death. Then on August 20, 1961, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Baker Moutray in Central Trinity United Methodist Church, Zanesville, Ohio.

Along with his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn, he is survived by two daughters, Deborah J. (Dr. Daniel) Carey of Punta Gorda, Florida and Robin L. Moutray of SouthBend; two sons, Donald Rex (Leanne) Moutray and Ronald J. Moutray both of South Bend; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. 

Don honorably served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class.

Don owned and operated Moutray & Associates, and was a general insurance agent with Ohio National Life.   He taught insurance classes at Indiana University South Bend for five years and was a LUTCF instructor for 12 years. 

He was an active member of Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, South Bend.  He taught Sunday School for many years and was a Certified Lay Speaker for over 30 years.  Don was a member of the Board of Directors for Bashor Children’s Home, Goshen.  He also served on the Northern Indiana Conference Board of Ordained Ministry. 

Mr. Moutray loved and studied John Wesley, founder of Methodism.  He toured Northern Indiana portraying the life and theology of Wesley. 

Don was a 32nd degree Mason and 50 year member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite - Valley of South Bend, Indiana.

Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at 6:00 pm Monday, July 25, 2016, at Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, 114 North Ironwood Drive, South Bend, Indiana 46615, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services.  Rev. Dr. Patrick Somers, pastor of the church, and retired Rev. Dr. Dexter Garman will officiate.  Burial will take place in Veterans National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
