MISHAWAKA - Dorothy L. (Smith) Overton, 95 years old, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Sprenger Health Care of Mishawaka. She was born July 30, 1921 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to the late Remus and Anna (Kurtz) Smith. Dorothy graduated from Riley High School in South Bend in 1939. She retired from Bendix after 35 years. Dorothy was a member of Oak Tree Community Church in South Bend. She was a class representative for the 1939 Riley graduating class, serving on reunion committees. She was also a member of the American Legion #303 and UAW Local #9.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Richard Overton of South Bend, Robert Overton of South Bend and Larry (Patricia) Overton of Berrien Center, Michigan; her daughter, Denise (James) Goepfrich of Fort Myers, Florida; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be at Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, during which time friends may call on the family. Funeral services will follow. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
