Gregory Alan McCoige

Gregory A. McCoige, 52, of South Bend, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Hospice House, South Bend, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born on July 28, 1964 in Rochester, IN to the late Lloyd R. McCoige and Katherine Sue (Pounders) McCoige. 

Greg is survived by his sister, Tamara L. (Michael) Miller of Columbus, IN; his brother, Gerry W. (Julie) McCoige of Plymouth, IN; six nieces and nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; and step-mother, Rhoda McCoige of Lakeville, IN.  Greg is also survived by his housemates and staff at Dungarvin, and his friends and staff at the Marshall-Starke Development Center in Plymouth, IN.

Greg lived most of his life in Lakeville and attended Argos and LaVille schools.  He overcame both physical and mental challenges his entire life.  Greg had an impressive memory for statistics and an incredible work ethic.  He would greet his oncologist by asking when he could return to work.  He participated in the Indiana Special Olympics and loved watching Notre Dame Sports, and the Chicago Cubs.  Greg adored his family.

Funeral services for Greg will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Palmer Funeral Home in Lakeville within the Palmer Community Complex, 601 N. Michigan Street, Lakeville, IN.  Graveside service and burial will follow at Maxinkuckee IOOF Cemetery in Culver, IN.  Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
